Mark Jenkins
San Francisco artist Mark Jenkins fuses reality and illusion into classical figurative images of beauty. Jenkins combines a traditional photographic approach with digital technique to achieve a masterful image of composition and montage. Jenkins graduated from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia studying photography, design and painting. He draws thematic inspiration from a variety of sources, including extensive travel through Italy, and the ideas of surrealists like De Chirico and Magritte. While his coloration evokes the warmth of hand-pulled platinum prints, Jenkins' lighting style and printing technique produces a distinctive "glow" to his works, enhancing a wide range of images of figurative, botanical and floral, architectural, and portrait subjects. His successful exhibitions of work evoked strong comparisons to Mapplethorpe by collectors and critics.
